Dr. David Kendler, MD FRCP(C)

Director, Clinical Research Centre

Dr. David Kendler is the director of the Prohealth Clinical Research Centre and the Osteoporosis Program at Providence Health Care in Vancouver, British Columbia. He received his initial training at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, followed by training in Christchurch, New Zealand; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Vancouver, British Columbia; and New York, New York.

Dr. Kendler's primary clinical and research interests are autoimmune thyroid disease, thyroid orbitopathy and osteoporosis. He serves on the Scientific Advisory Council of the Osteoporosis Society of Canada, is Medical Advisor to the Thyroid Foundation of Canada, and chairs the Western Osteoporosis Alliance. He is Past President of the International Society for Clinical Densitometry and the B.C. representative to the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Dr. Kendler has published and presented research on osteoporosis therapies, osteoporosis risk assessment technologies and autoimmune thyroid disease.

   
   

Dr. Larry Dian, MB BCH FRCP(C)

Dr. Larry Dian is a specialist in geriatric medicine. He received his training at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the University of British Columbia. He has a special research interest in osteoporosis and decreased mobility, and trains medical practitioners in rural areas. Currently, Dr. Dian is involved in the development of academic and clinical links for geriatric medicine in rural and remote areas of British Columbia.

   
   

Dr. Chui Kin Yuen, MD, FRCS(C), FACOG, MBA

Dr. Chui Kin Yuen has spent most of his adult life dealing with women's health issues. In recent years, he has focused on practice, education and research in menopausal health (including hormones, osteoporosis, incontinence and sexuality). He has published and presented research on osteoporosis therapies. With the assistance of his university colleagues, he co-chaired a large epidemiologic study on Osteoporosis: MOMM (Maximizing Osteoporosis Management in Manitoba). He established a Midlife Women's Learning Centre and a Women's Health Research Unit at Manitoba Clinic, a large multi-specialty clinic of 70-plus physicians. He served as Chairman of the Clinic for seven years. 

Dr. Yuen was trained in Winnipeg where he received his medical and business administration degrees (MD, MBA). He completed a Canadian Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (FRCSC) and is board certified (ABOG) with an American Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology (FACOG). He is also a certified clinical densitometrist (CCD).

Dr. Yuen currently serves on the Scientific Advisory Council of Osteoporosis Canada and is a founding member and treasurer of Western Osteoporosis Alliance. He was a member of the Manitoba Drug Standards and Therapeutics Committee; a past Regional Chair of SOGC; a past councillor of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba; and a board member of the Manitoba Medical Association.

   
   

Steve Robertson, DXA Technologist and member of the ISCD Education Faculty

Steve operates and maintains the Research Centre's DXA scan and therefore meets everyone who comes to the Centre for a bone density test. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1976 and has worked with Dr. Kendler since 1996.

   
   

Joan, Lead Study Coordinator and Research Manager

Joan meets with research volunteers to discuss the details of research studies. She graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2003. Joan has been with the Research Centre since 2004 and is the lead study coordinator or backup study coordinator for all clinical trials.

   
   

Juliet, Lead Study Coordinator and Research Manager

Juliet meets with research volunteers to discuss the details of studies. She also serves as clinical assistant to the director. Juliet graduated from De La Salle University in the Philippines in 2001 and has been with the Research Centre since November 2004. She has worked in health care since 1996.

   
   

Mary, Senior Research Assistant

Mary works closely with the study coordinators and assists during patient visits. She is also an administrative assistant at the Research Centre. Mary graduated from Gong Don Medical University in Guang Zhong, China, in 1997 and has been with the Research Centre since September 2005. She has worked in health care since 1995.

   
   

Mira, Research Assistant

Mira meets with clinical patients and assists study coordinators during study patient visits. She graduated from Shanghai Medical University in 1991 and has just recently joined the Research Centre. She has worked in health care since 1989.

   
   

Riesha, Administrative Assistant

Riesha works at the front desk on administrative tasks and is the first to greet patients. She is currently completing her Medical Office Assistant Certificate, her initiation into health care.
